Spring is sneaking up on us fast this year, which means it's time for homes far and wide to start the deep-cleaning process we all know and love (or attempt to) so well. This year we have looked into pointers from Marie Kondo, known for her intense organizational skills, to bring you a list of the 9 steps to best clean out clutter from your home heading into Spring.
1. ORGANIZE BY SIZE
By keeping items of the same size together it's harder to lose things!
2. STORING ITEMS
Store items based on frequency of use. Daily use plates and cups: lowest cabinet in the kitchen. Rice cooker? Back of the pantry.
3. WORSE BEFORE BETTER
Like a lot of things in life, the clutter will get worse before it gets better. And, since most serious decluttering isn't finished in a day, there might be piles around the house for just a day or so. Hang in there!
4. PILE THINGS UP
Put everything you own from each category into a massive pile before deciding what to keep and what to get rid of.
5. THANK YOUR HOME
A part of spring cleaning is mindfulness. Be sure to give thanks for everything you have!
6. A PLACE FOR EVERYTHING
And everything in its place. It's a lot harder to lose things when they have a specific home!
7. KONMARI FOLDING METHOD
Clothing is folded into rectangles that can be stacked vertically so every item can be seen! Click the image for a video link.
8. USE CLEAR BOXES
In order to be able to easily see what is in which box, make sure to use clear boxes, and try to stack your belongings as vertically as possible! This way it's easier to grab/use later.
9. MAKE SURE IT SPARKS JOY
The most important part of the Marie Kondo lifestyle is to make sure that every item you keep sparks joy. It might sound humorous, but this is a great way to make sure that you're only keeping the essentials!
